Simple sketch – maps were probably drawn before people could write , so maps may be older than written history. The oldest surviving map was drawn on a Babylonian tablet about 2300 BC.
An ancient map was found at Gar-Sur, nearly 400 kilometers north of Babylon. It shows mountains and a river (probably the Euphrates) flowing through a delta. Scientific map – making began with the Greeks.
