When did the Alps Form ?

The Apls are made mainly of rock layers which were uplifted and folded about 25 million years ago.
The Apls are part of a series of fold mountains stretching through Europe and the middle East to the Himalayas and other mountains of Asia . they are the result of the movement of continents since the break-up of the super continent Pangaea. Africa and Eurasia drifted eastwards and rotated towards each other . Sediments in the ocean floor between these continents were compressed , folded and uplifted.
