Why do Eclipses of the sun Occurs?

The Sun is about 400 times the diameter of the Moon, but it is also 400 times as far away from the earth. This means that both bodies look about the same size in the sky when seen from the Earth.

If the moon passes in front of the Sun , it can block out the brilliant disc, so that the faint surrounding ‘corona’ can be seen. The beautiful corona can only be seen at new moon , during a total Eclipse.
