The Great Barrier reef, off the nrrth – east coast of Australia , is the world’s longest coral reef. It stretches for over 2000 kilometers from near Papua to the centre of the Queensland coast.
The Great Barrier Reef lies between 45 and 65 kilometers off the Australian coast. In the north it is only 15- 20 kilometers wide, but in the south the reef area extends up to 325 kilometers out to sea.
