Why does Saturn Have Rings?
Nobody knows this for sure. The rings are made up of countless pieces of rocks and ice a few centimeters across. They could be the remains of a satellite, or moon, that broke away many millions of years ago.
Saturn’s ring system is about 22 times the diameter of the Earth, but it is only a few kilometer thick. The particles are like a blizzard in orbit around the planet’s equator.
