When Did the First Spacecraft land on another world?

Soviet spacecraft made the first direct landings on the Moon on 13 September 1959. Venera 3 reached Venus in March 1966; and Mars 2 landed on Mars in November 1971.

The First American craft to reach another world was Ranger 7 , which struck the Moon on 31 July 1964. The first Spacecraft to land people on the Moon was Apllo 11, on 16 July 1969. The Photographs shows astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the Moons surface. Venera 4, which landed on Venus on 18 October 1967, was the first probe to send back information from the surface of another planet.
